(Basically an older version of this. Also, I know this is from a manga, but the character here is almost exactly what I pictured my character to look like)

Shou is 2 meters tall and weighs about 90 kilo. He is quite muscular - at least for his size - , and has a tattoo below his left eye (refer to photo no 1, which also shows what he wears when in the Human World). He has a healthy tanned skin colour. He wears in his right ear an earring with a pendant of a small birds cage. When not in the Human World he wears a sleeveless Shinigami uniform, with his Lieutenant badge tied around his left arm, slightly below his shoulder. His Zanpakuto is usually strapped to his back. He has blonde hair and piercing eyes, the left being emerald coloured, the right sapphire coloured, both shining as if they really were gems.

Personality: Shou is more often than not seen yawning, stretching or otherwise relaxing by his squad mates when he doesn't have official business. However, unlike common belief, this is from training constantly, though few people other than his Captain are aware of this. At least most of the time it's due to exhaustion.

When not on a mission or in a situation that requires him being serious and paying full attention, he tends to be quite a relaxed character. He almost always smiles, sometimes giving the impression that he isn't much of a thinker, though after being in the Gotei 13 for more than 400 years he has become somewhat adept at strategizing.

On missions or other situations that require equal attention, his personality changes. He becomes quite serious, losing his smile and instead showing a much more focused and determined expression. He expects – both of himself and of others – to do the jobs given efficiently and in time, letting very few things distract him.

While one might expect otherwise, Shou doesn't mind that most of the Captains are younger than him, nor does he mind following them. In reality it is quite the opposit, the fact that they have made the rank of Captain makes him respect them even more, particularly his own Captain, and of course Zafaron, the Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13. He will lend his council to anyone who wishes it, be they above or below him in rank, even if they are from other Divisions.

Fighting Style: Shou is, as expected of a member of the 2nd Division, highly trained in Shunpo and hand-to-hand combat, and having very high flexibility gives him an edge against other fighters. He has very little talent in Hado, instead focusing very much on Bakudo, being stronger there than what is to be expected of a Lieutenant, yet not as strong as a Captain.

He focuses highly on speed and evasion, as well as observing his opponent whether it's before, during or after an attack. He will most commonly first try hand-to-hand combat, then use his Zanpakuto, and finally releasing his Shikai if need be. He is highly trained in using it in its released state.

Background:
In life
Shou was born in a poor family with many mouths to feed. He worked hard every day, never complaining, but alas it was not enough to keep them healthy. His entire family was hit by a plague, and soon would succumb to the disease. While seperated from the family he had in the Real World, he was soon adopted into a new family in Rukongai that he would soon come to love, and Shou would try to provide for them, just as he had his own family.

Joining the Academy
Some time passed, and soon Shou and his family noticed that he alone still felt hunger. He asked around where he could, and after a while found out that this meant he had spirit energy, which in turn meant he could become a Shinigami. He was drawn to the idea of becoming one, and after discussing it with his family, he joined the Shinigami Academy. While at first it was tough, he soon grew to the challenge of the various classes, with the exception of Kido, more specifically Hado, however his grades in Bakudo made up for it, and his talent for Hoho were impressive, at least for an Academy student. After 5 years, as opposed to the usual 6, Shou was ready to graduate from the Academy.

Joining the Gotei 13
Soon after graduating Shou was hand-picked to join the 2nd Division, mostly due to his grades in hand-to-hand combat and Shunpo skills. He achieved Shikai after a few years, gaining the nickname “Suparna” (a mythical creature in Hindu mythology said to possess beautiful wings) due to his skills in Hoho, and was 4th Seat in the 2nd Division around the time a certain Ranryou Roga joined. Shortly after Roga was made Lieutenant, Shou took over as 3rd Seat, and head of the Detention Unit. He grew to respect Roga's determination, and was happy to see him become the new Captain. Shou himself soon became Roga's Lieutenant, and Roga is still Shou's preferred sparring partner.

Acceptable, short, and simple highly desricpted his leadership in situations, and when not on duty, you seem to have read up on your Captain and understand what he's like so that also played into the design of this character. Well done.
