A meeting interrupted

Robert quickly closed his cell phone with a snap, fear in his eyes as he looked at his fellow Overseers.

They had been having one of their usual meetings and discussing the usual problems in the organization. Some areas not being able to have enough protection from the hollows, reinforcements needed in others, and of course the worries that a few Superhumans may be going rogue.

They were just about to discuss a situation that Levi Colton has witnessed earlier in Karakura Town, but that would have to wait. The news he had just received, though his cell phone ringing had received more than a few nasty looks, was of far greater importance.

"My apologizes for the interruption but that was a call on my phone which is only used in the largest emergencies. Apparently a group of high powered hollows just blew up a chunk of New York City leaving a huge crater of devastation." He looked down on his phone as he received several emails detailing more about the attack.

"Apparently while the main group of hollows quickly left the area. their whereabouts currently unknown, a few remained to create a large force of regular hollows in the area. A few of the local superhumans and a squad or two of shinigami have appeared to try to stop the hollows but it is unknown how effective they will be."

He looked up, his face even paler then usual. "One shinigami apparently was heard stating that this was a declaration of war between shinigami and hollow-kind. I know that we had other things on the agenda, but I feel this crisis probably goes above everything else right now."

Virgil was a bit worried after the news had been delivered. First, the destruction of New York City was bad enough, now the Hollows and Shinigami had gone to war. This was bad, not just for any spiritual beings, but for the humans as well. "Well boys... The way I see it, we got one of two options, and one isn't really an option. One. We stay neutral, and let this war run amuck across the world. Or, two, we can side up with the Shinigami... And I don't think staying neutral is our best bet."

Virgil struck a match against the matchbox, and lit his cigar. He took a long inhale, and exhaled for a couple of seconds. "We also have to take into consideration that New York City probably wasn't their last target. If I'm right, and I'm takin' a shot in the dark here, they're gonna attack major cities across the globe, and we can't let that happen."

Levi's cigar hung loosely from his mouth as he heard Robert tell news that must have been a joke. But no one would seriously joke about something like THIS. Levi began to sweat slightly as he thought of the repercussions of such an attack. How would the government react to this? Will the people go bat-crazy? What a nightmare!

Virgil's words snapped him out of his inner thoughts. "Virgil's right," he grumbled, shifting his cigar until it was once again nestled between his teeth. "We can't just sit tight while our world is being blown to hell by the hollows. I suggest that we await word from one of our superhumans if the hollows attack again, then Robert can send us to that location and try to fight them off. We know that the soul reapers can't handle any more large numbers of souls, not after this."

"Is that truly the best choice though?" Robert said looking up. He wasn't one to usually talk in these meetings but since he was being mentioned anyways, he figured he better speak up. "The powerful hollows seem to have left right after blowing up New York. They may try this again, attacking another location then leaving. So by the time I am able to make a gate and get there, all we would have is a large mass of regular hollows to deal with."

He looked at a few of the other Overseers. Notably the ones most skilled in fighting. "As I can only bring four people at a time, it would be best to use our strengths most effectively. While we could waste our time with the regular hollows, it would be best to leave those to the shinigami. While most of the shinigami being sent are weaker then us, there are more then enough of them to deal with the threat of the regular hollows."

"What I propose is that we wait until the most powerful of these hollows stop and stay in one location. Then I will create a gate to that location where we can join some of the more powerful shinigami in fighting the hollow threat. The regular superhumans in the areas where the reishi explosions occur will also be sent to help the shinigami divisions destroy the new hollows."

He nearly went back to his musings when he looked up again more worry in his eyes. "Perhaps another thing should also be decided. What should we do about the governments of any country that is hit by this? For all they know an invisible explosion just decimated part of NEW YORK! Depending on who takes the blame or how people respond, we could have a global crisis on our hands just due to the way us humans could respond."

"That's why we should stop it now! Before anything else gets blown up, we have to stop the destruction before it can spread. If we choose to just do nothing, that's the worst course of action we can take!" Virgil said, a little pissed that anyone would even think that aiding the Shinigami wasn't right.

"Quite frankly, I don't see any other path that makes sense...." He said, cracking his neck. Now that he thought about it, the government being dragged into this would be bad, and keeping them out would be good. "If we just do everything in our power, I think we can handle this."

((Boom, hollows appear and you all sense their giant spiritual pressures and shit. Respond.))

Clearing her throat and preparing to speak for the first time in this meeting, Akutore raised her hand in the air. "I'll help drive them off, should they come here. After all, this is part of my territory, and I'd like to cleave each of their heads off myself..." She said with a twisted grin. Only seconds after she said that, she felt a snag on one of her little tripwires, having set up a few hundred of them throughout the skyline of Karakura after the first attack. "Speak of the devils, I do believe they're here," Akutore said calmly, right before the spiritual pressure of the Espada weighed down upon them. "Okay, Espada it is. Virgil, Levi, I say we go out. Cannons, threads, and--" Akutore spoke to Virgil, forgetting just what he did, "pie?" Joking aside, she was already jumping out the open window with her ability released, balancing on a single thread. "Well, shall we go?"

Virgil tapped out some of the ashes from his cigar, and smiled. "That's what I'm talkin' about." He thought, and tightened up his gloves, getting ready and primed for the fight. He activated his ability, the bony spines shooting out of his arms without so much as a yelp from Virgil. He cracked all the bones he could, and stepped out of the area, and headed off to defend the town from the attacking hollows. His thoughts raced as he went from a run into a full-on sprint, and had one thing on his mind: kill as many hollows and Arrancar as possible, and don't get killed.

Levi first heard Akutore's report about hollows appearing in Karakura, then felt the enormous spiritual pressures. These have to be the arrancars that Motaro had talked about in our discussion. If he had not been in a battle-environment, Levi may have felt concern about his own safety in the face of such dangerous foes. However, his mind was set in battle-mode; while he felt pity for hollows and their strife, he had to protect humans from their wrath. Levi took one last draw from his cigar and stubbed it out into an ashtray. "Well, I reckon we should go and do something about the problem. I can sense a whole lot of other hollows besides those really strong ones. We should make sure to take care of those as well." He stood up, cracking his back and stretching his neck as he readied himself for the tough fight that was ahead.

Realizing that he really had no dramatic way to exit the meeting, Levi simply fast-walked out the doors and ran to the stairs. He rushed down the steps, soon emerging from the doors of the building, in which the Overseers' meeting had been, and sprinted towards the area where an alarming amount of reiatsu had gathered.

After Virgil took off, Akutore followed him from above, running across her network of threads. "So, I'm the only one who doesn't change my own bone structure in this group, never noticed that..." She said to Virgil, refering to the two of them, as well as Levi Colton. "Oh well, you can keep them entertained with some quick attacks while Levi charges up his lasers and I tie them up."

Natsu finally spoke up after the other three Overseers had left. "I'd better go out there as well. As for the media... we'll have to see what parts of the countries we have Superhumans in... mostly in governments and intelligence agencies. Would you look that up and contact them, Robert? I'll see if I can catch up with the others, and if not, I'll go handle other parts of the city as best I can." The pressure of the Espada made it clear they were not to be underestimated, he knew that only too well - but with the limited resources it seemed like the best plan. At least for the moment. But as always, events could occur to change the situation at any time.

He didn't have time to wait for Roberts reply, and could only hope Robert would contact everyone if he thought of anything important, so he rushed out, activated his Cuerpo and hoped he could still catch up to the others.
