Name:
Suiren [Water Lily]
Suiren Tennyo [Water Lily Celestial Maiden]
Zanpakuto Spirit Appearance:
Suiren takes on the appearance of a young woman, her visual age resting comfortably at the mid-twenties. She wears a dark violet kimono loosely about her body, the silken material largely undecorated save for a small pattern of light blue bubbles along its hem and right side. Her long, black hair travels down to her waist unhindered, a small collection of bangs sweeping down to just above her midnight-blue eyes with an uneven and disorganized appearance along her otherwise flawless pale face. A vibrantly colored water lily, bearing the same tone as her kimono, has been placed regally just past the right-hand corner of her hairline, the petals spread wide to proudly display its bright yellow center.
Zanpakuto Spirit Personality:
Suiren takes a languid approach to life, largely preferring to relax and devote herself to a contemplative lifestyle. She largely lacks motivation and, coupled with her general disregard for others, very rarely takes any form of action.
Release Phrase: Rest upon the water, Suiren
Family: Water
Level: Bankai
Sealed Zanpakuto:
In its sealed state, Suiren takes on the appearance of a small wakizashi, its blade at an approximate fourteen inches in length. The guard is circular in shape and is inlaid with a golden design, the intricate pattern detailing a long string of water lily blossoms along its edge.
Shikai:
Suiren's shikai form takes on that of a moderately-sized katana -- its blade at approximately twenty-eight inches in length -- with the same ornately designed guard as found in its sealed state. The grip of the sword takes on a new color, the material of its sealed form replaced by a vibrant dark purple silk.
Shikai Ability:
Suiren naturally releases a small amount of water to coat the blade, allowing for it to experience slightly reduced friction while in contact with other objects as well as providing a slight buffer to fire and lightning attacks. The amount released is very minor and initially provides next to no assistance, but it becomes more effective if it is allowed to build up over time.
At the end of each each turn, a small amount of pure water is added to the blade, and up to three turns' worth can be maintained at a single time.
Bankai:
Suiren Tennyo's bankai form is largely unchanged from its shikai form, sporting the same katana blade and purple grip. The only notable difference is that the guard now takes on the appearance of a water lily blossom, the small golden petals curving slightly upward with the katana's blade at its center.
Bankai Release Phrase: Ryouta need only to say the word "bankai" to initiate the sword's release.
Bankai Ability:
Much like its shikai form, Suiren Tennyo naturally produces a small amount of water to coat its blade. The water provides the same effects and the only difference is that the bankai form can maintain more water at once. The amount of water present in shikai state transfers over to this form.
At the end of each each turn, a small amount of pure water is added to the blade, and up to four turns' worth can be maintained at a single time.
Techniques:
Gekiryuu [Rapid Stream] (shikai and bankai)
Upon speaking the name of this technique and supplying a small amount of time, the water currently collected by the katana will begin to swirl around the weapon at a very fast pace. While making the katana slightly slower and unwieldy, the moving water provides a much larger amount of protection against incoming attacks by redirecting it with the current.
The water also provides a buffer in the event the katana is used to strike, however, greatly reducing the amount of damage Ryouta might cause with his blade while Gekiryuu is active.
Limitations:
At the end of each turn that Gekiryuu is active, Suiren loses one turn's worth of water (which do not recharge during this state). Upon reaching zero charges, the effect ends. Other techniques may be used during this state, but may not be used on the same turn Gekiryuu takes effect. Doing so will also prematurely end the duration.
1 turn charge. 3 turn cooldown.
Tenkiri [Heavenly Mist] (shikai and bankai)
Upon speaking the name of this technique, the water currently collected by the katana will begin to rapidly spin, heating itself up before evaporating to form a thick, fog-like mist in the local area. The mist obscures long-range vision and dampens the area.
The length of this technique is determined by the amount of water currently maintained by the katana, at 1.5 turns per turn's worth of water (rounded down).
Limitations:
1 turn charge, 3 turn cooldown
The katana loses all of its stored water upon completing its charge.
Mizuken [Water Blade] (bankai only)
Upon speaking the name of this technique, the water currently collected by the katana will begin to rush along the edge of the blade at a high speed, greatly enhancing its cutting ability. This technique is instantaneous but only lasts for a short moment and dissipates immediately after the first attack (even a missed attack).
The damage of this technique is determined by the amount of water currently maintained by the katana, and ranges from very weak (1 turn's worth) to very strong (4 turns' worth). Mathematically, the damage of the normal attack is increased by 15% for each turn of water collected.
Limitations:
Can only be used twice within an eight turn period.
The katana loses all of its stored water after the attack.
